Dr. Maria Ribeiro obtained her medical degree at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil in 1985 and completed specialty training in internal medicine at Harlem Hospital in New York City. She went on to the University of Connecticut followed by Emory University in Atlanta for four years of subspecialty training in Hematology and Oncology in addition to hemostasis and thrombosis research at the Centers for Disease Control. Since 1995, when she accepted a combined faculty appointment at the Atlanta VAMC and Emory University, she has initiated and developed a research program focused on how to drive quality research through accruals to National Cancer Institute Clinical Trials and how to improve quality cancer care in the face of limited resources.

Although Dr. Ribeiro still has strong clinical interest in advances of therapy of thrombosis and hemostasis problems, the goal of Dr. Ribeiro's research program is to improve quality of cancer care and clinical trials accrual.
