Dr. El Rassi received his Medical Degree from the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. His postgraduate medical training included a residency in internal medicine at Saint Louis University Hospital and a fellowship in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
Dr. El Rassi's research work is focused on the development of novel approaches to improve the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia, management of sickle cell disease, and iron overload. Also, modulation of current treatment approaches to improve outcomes in acute myeloid leukemia and the role of immune-modulating therapy in AML. We have developed a clinical trial testing the safety and efficacy of rehabilitation and physical therapy in older deconditioned AML patients during treatment with hypomethylating therapy, and assessing the ability to deliver induction chemotherapy after rehabilitation.
